I went out with my parents tonight to meet some of Dad's family. Uncle George, Aunt Sarah, and their daughter Nancy. They're actually my great aunt and uncle, and my aunt once removed, I think. Not sure on that, maybe second cousin. Whatever. Dad and Nacy are cousins and they did some crazy stuff when they were younger. Nancy's sister and her friend burned down a barn! Can you believe that!? A barn. And they all blew up a boat. Like gasoline and spark and BOOM! And Nancy was the calmest of all the cousins. Uncle George was on a freighter in the South Pacific in World War Two, near the Phillipines when a Kamikaze plane crashed into the ship and it sank. They were stranded in the ocean for 2 days before they all got fished out of the water and back on another ship. That's why we went to go see them. it was a reunion for the survivors of that ship. The LST 460. It was kinda cool Getting to hear all sorts of stories from that time. I wish I could have spent more time with all of them and just listened to all their stories. There's so much you can learn from people who lived through that kind of thing.
Also, the eye of hurricane Katrina went right over Uncle George and Aunt Sarah's house in DeCatur, Mississippi, near Meridian. They lost over 100 trees in there yard. That's alot. And Nancy lives in Huntsville, Alabama. She's got refugees from the hurricane in her town. She's a nurse, so she was offering all sorts of help. They were buying matrsses and food and all sorts of stuff for these people. All of the Mississippi panhandle is gone. New Orleans is getting all the media, but so many people have nothing left. And those who have a house still standing have at least 7 ft of water. They are the ones who are lucky. No one in Mississippi has electricity or water. Amazing...
I got invited to the family reunion down in Heardsville, Mississippi. I would like to go. it's the third weekend of July. I'm a little nervous, but lately I've been feeling so lost, like I have almost no family, and I'd like to meet them. I think I'm gonna go, even if Mom and Dad don't wanna come with me.
